Overview

The Dooars, also known as Duars, is a region in India located at the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in North-East India. The name "Dooars" is derived from the word "doors" as the region serves as a gateway to Bhutan from India. This picturesque region is known for its lush green forests, tea gardens, rich biodiversity, and vibrant culture.

The Dooars region spans across the districts of Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar in the state of West Bengal, as well as parts of Assam. It stretches from the Teesta River in the west to the Sankosh River in the east, encompassing the foothills of the Himalayas and extending to the Brahmaputra plains.

The Dooars region is home to a diverse population, including indigenous tribes such as the Toto, Rabha, Mech, and Rajbanshi. The cultural fabric is enriched by the blend of various ethnic communities, each with its own traditions, festivals, and lifestyles.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Day 1: Arrival in Bagdogra / NJP – Transfer to Jaldapara (Drive: 3-4 hrs)
  • Arrive at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station.
  • Meet your representative and proceed with a drive to Jaldapara, renowned for its wildlife sanctuary and the rich natural beauty of the area.
  • Check-in at your hotel or resort in Jaldapara.
  • Evening at leisure to relax, explore the property, or enjoy a casual walk around the vicinity.
  • Optional: Enjoy a bonfire (if available at the resort).
  • Overnight stay in Jaldapara.
DAY 2

Day 2: Jaldapara Safari and Transfer to Gorumara (Drive: 2 hrs)
Early morning safari at Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary – spot animals like the one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, and various bird species. Return to your resort/hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, check out and proceed for a drive to Gorumara National Park. On arrival, check in to your hotel or resort in Gorumara. Afternoon safari in Gorumara National Park – explore its dense forest and catch glimpses of wildlife like elephants, bison, and deer. Evening at leisure or visit nearby Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary. Overnight stay in Gorumara.
DAY 3

Day 3: Gorumara Safari & Transfer to Lataguri (Drive: 1 hr)
Early morning safari in Gorumara National Park, one of the best places to see the Indian bison and rhinoceros. Return to your hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, check out and drive to Lataguri (about 1 hour away), a small town near the Gorumara National Park known for its proximity to nature. On arrival, check-in at your resort/hotel in Lataguri. The afternoon can be spent relaxing, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, or visiting the nearby tea gardens. Overnight stay in Lataguri.
DAY 4

Day 4: Visit to Jhalong & Departure (Drive: 3 hrs)
After breakfast, head out for a visit to Jhalong, a beautiful area situated at the foothills of the Himalayas, known for its picturesque views and the Jaldhaka River. Explore the nearby Samsing and Mongpong, two charming places offering stunning views of the tea gardens and rivers. After the visit, proceed back to Bagdogra or NJP Railway Station for your return journey. End of the tour with unforgettable memories of wildlife adventures and scenic beauty.
