Overview

Kanchenjunga’s dominating peak is so high that a trek to its base camp is itself a big-time adventure that keeps kicking the adrenaline rush. Trekking trail to Kanchenjunga Base Camp is quite different when we compare it with the other treks in the Indian Himalayan belt. Kanchenjunga massifs contour a big cross that spans the boundaries of three major countries- Nepal, Tibet and India (Sikkim). Till 1849, before the discovery of Everest and K2, Kangchenjunga was deemed as the highest mountain in India.

Itinerary

DAY 1

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Pick-up from Tribhuvan International Airport.
Check-in at a hotel and trek briefing session.
Free time for last-minute trekking gear shopping.
Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 2

Day 2: Flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur & Drive to Taplejung

Early morning flight to Bhadrapur (1 hour). Scenic drive to Taplejung (approx. 7-8 hours). Overnight in Taplejung.

DAY 3

Day 3: Trek from Taplejung to Mitlung

Trek through beautiful terraced fields and lush forests. Cross several suspension bridges and traditional villages. Duration: 5-6 hours. Overnight in Mitlung.

DAY 4

Day 4: Trek from Mitlung to Chirwa

Trek along the Tamor River with gentle ascents and descents. Explore traditional Limbu and Rai villages. Duration: 5-6 hours. Overnight in Chirwa.

DAY 5

Day 5: Trek from Chirwa to Sekathum

Enter the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. Cross suspension bridges over the Ghunsa River. Duration: 5-6 hours. Overnight in Sekathum.

DAY 6

Day 6: Trek from Sekathum to Amjilosa

Challenging uphill trail through dense forests. Views of waterfalls and diverse flora and fauna. Duration: 5-6 hours. Overnight in Amjilosa.

DAY 7

Day 7: Trek from Amjilosa to Ghunsa

Walk through pine and rhododendron forests. Arrival at Ghunsa, a beautiful Tibetan village. Acclimatization and exploration. Duration: 6-7 hours. Overnight in Ghunsa.

DAY 8

Day 8: Trek from Ghunsa to Kambachen

High-altitude trek with stunning mountain views. Pass through glacial moraines and rocky terrains. Duration: 5-6 hours. Overnight in Kambachen.

DAY 9

Day 9: Trek from Kambachen to Lhonak

Trek to Lhonak via Ramtang Monastery. Close-up views of Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks. Duration: 6-7 hours. Overnight in Lhonak.

DAY 10

Day 10: Trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp & Return to Lhonak

Trek to Pangpema, the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga. Enjoy breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga (8,586m). Return to Lhonak. Duration: 7-8 hours. Overnight in Lhonak.

DAY 11

Day 11: Return Trek to Ghunsa & Drive to Kathmandu

Descend back to Ghunsa. Drive back to Kathmandu. Farewell dinner and cultural program. Overnight in Kathmandu.
